A cozy place with a lot of heart, Chubritsa is a unique and happy addition to the local food scene.Chubritsa’s meal portions were generous and the flavours were humble but very true to their origins – the cold soup was cooling and flavourful with the cucumber and spices, the mint lemonades were earthy and refreshing, and the sausages and chicken very much fulfilled any umami/meaty flavour cravings we had prior – all-in-all very enjoyable. Chubritsa’s Bulgarian offerings are unique enough to hold their own and provides a happy step away from the Western European palette and flavours that are a staple in Townsville/Queensland.The prices are very much on the affordable range, which fits in perfectly with the restaurant’s homestyle, rustic vibe.In terms of service, we went on a Sunday night and we were the only table in Chubritsa for the entire duration so we were very much looked after and catered for by the male waiter and female chef (?family-run business). He was very gracious in offering to explain the menu choices and kindly indulged in our queries regarding our unfamiliarity with Bulgarian cuisine. He initially appeared nervous which might have been a contributing factor to him forgetting to wear his mask or asking for our confirmation on the QLD QR Code Check-In App. Being the only patrons that night however, the service was very very fast and the duo were very attentive to requests and follow-up orders. Unfortunately some of the options were not available as they’ve stated they were particularly busy the night prior and were not able to source products during the turnaround time.Ambience was very home-y, warm and, as stated earlier, a very nice rustic feel, with the indoor plants, vintage wall photos, and wood ceiling design contrasting well with the exposed bricks and ceiling vents. The wooden seats and tables were very well laid out and aesthetically pleasing however the lack of cushioning on the seating (think Church pew) did draw back slightly from the experience. We had some difficulties trying to make a booking as the phone call dropped multiple times but we eventually got a stable enough connection to fully communicate a reservation request.I’m unsure as to when this place has been open since but was definitely already in business by mid-December. Chubritsa have only recently opened their social media account and posted their business details so hopefully now that those are live that they’re able to be discovered by more locals and tourists. I’ve taken the liberty of creating their location on Google so I can post this review but I’m hoping with further exposure that people will be as pleasantly surprised as I was when they discover this place! Will definitely be coming back! 5/5 ⭐️

Such a wonderful place. The atmosphere was so calming and warm with soft lights, artwork on the walls, and it felt like I was dining in a friendly home. Staff were so kind and helpful. Food and drink were a delicious mix of flavours, and things I’d never tried before, I’ll definitely be back to try the rest! Thankyou so much for bringing a piece of Bulgaria to Townsville ❤️Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options!Kid-friendliness: Red lemonade, and soft lighting, calming atmosphere Parking: Lots of parking nearby.

Delicious food, hearty without being heavy or stodgy. Excellent flavours and a nice vibe. The menonades (mint and lime drinks) were divine. Great vegan options, too.Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian options are clearly marked, and there is more than one choice in each menu category (starters, salads, sides, mains)

Finding GREAT places to eat in Townsville isn’t easy, so it was with a modicum of interest that I noticed a sign for a BULGARIAN restaurant called Chubritsa in Flinders St Townsville. That was a month ago and last night I finally went.First things first I looked through the windows to see if it was staffed by backpackers or non Bulgarians (what the heck does a Bulgarian look like anyway). The coast looked clear and we went in.Let me say this. This joint serves GREAT food.We had eggplant rolls and Bulgarian dips. Flavours popped, we wanted more. For mains we had rolled chicken breast wrapped in bacon, Bulgarian kebab (nothing like a middle eastern kebab) and meatballs in white sauce. I kid you not, faultless, tasty, and priced ridiculously cheap. We met the dad and son, what lovely people, they treated us like family.I’m definitely a regular now.Townsville – do yourself a favour and check out this hidden gem.

Fresh, honest food prepared and served with sincerity. I had thought that Bulgarian food might be stodgy, but it wasn’t at all. Very tasty. I will definitely be back.

Last night at Townsville.Great experience with a super friendly staff. We ordered the chicken soup, Parlenka, Pickled vegetables and Wine’s Kebab.I personally really love the Pickled vegetables, very refreshing, soaked with vinegar, very appetising. The chicken soup is also nice, and super fulfilling, I couldn’t finished it, a large bowl of chicken slices, potatoes, and other veggies.Me and my partner especially enjoy the Parlenka, the grilled bread, so tasty! You must order this as a side, I personally think this side won’t be wrong. The Wine’s Kebab is also nice, my partner enjoyed it.We enjoyed dining here, and highly recommended to everyone if you would like to try some exotic Bulgarian foods.

This is one of the best restaurants, ifnot the best, in Townsville, and afar.Run by a welcoming Bulgarianfamily, the food is simply delicious, freshly cooked and like nothing youwill have tasted before. Wholesomehome cooking that will leave youfeeling like coming back night afternight. Which is what our group ofcolleagues did during our businessstay in lovely Townsville. It is a must!
