If you find yourself hurtling south on the Pacific Highway and looking for a fast eat, keep Nowra Fresh Fish & Meat Market in mind. This seafood and butchery store has a little side hustle: a takeaway fish & chips business. Seeing the local NSW Police constabulary queuing for their lunch in quite fetching short-legged pants, I joined the end to see what all the fuss was about. Two massive locally caught snapper fillets ($18.99) with chips, a single sachet of tartare (yep: ask for more) and a lemon wedge proved more than I could finish. The fish was moist, the batter crisp and the price felt right. My dining companion threw in a potato scallop ($1.30) which hid a slippery potato disc inside the same super-crunchy batter: a bargain at the price.

It’s great to find a fish and chip shop that still make their own potato scallops! Not the premade stuff.Their batter is the best I’ve had in a long time, great crunch and flavour. Definitely coming back every time I’m in Nowra!

They used to have really thick chips that imo were horrible. But they switched and now have these great chips that are cooked perfectly are crisp and crunchy. We eat here weekly now 10/10
