I am very tempted to rate Riviera Bar & Grill 5 stars. As I can’t fault either their breakfasts or dinners, especially the speciality pork ribs dish. I think that I need to try one of the pasta dishes to reserve my final judgement, next time I am in Tamworth.

While good motel restaurants seem to be the exception rather than the rule, Tamworth is one place that breaks the mould. Not only is the Powerhouse Tamworth’s restaurant—The Workshop Kitchen—a fabulous place to eat locally produced Jack’s Creek beef, over the road at the Best Western Sanctuary Inn they are doing interesting things as well. The restaurant is called the Riviera Bar & Grill. The decor is a curious blend of conservative wainscoting, and flamboyant lush blue-green velour chairs, circle lights and cane chairs, most boasting window views onto two of Tamworth’s busiest roads. Here you can eat Jack’s Creek beef as a hearty, slow-cooked ragu over gnocchi ($28) topped with Parmesan cheese and basil. It’s also trotted out as wagyu bolognese on the “gangster” ($25) 13-inch, 24-hour proofed pizza with thinly sliced spuds, garlic, tomato, and mozzarella cheese. Both dishes eat well and speak to the conservative side of this meat’n’potatoes, cattle country town. The cocktails address the town’s more performative character with a spicy watermelon margarita ($16) topping the list. There’s also a credible wine list, with drops like the Kooyong Massale Pinot Noir ($15/glass) if you can’t quite make the leap between the two different faces of Tamworth.

Restaurant looks beautiful, 1 friendly server however the other servers were really rude particularly the short woman. We ordered the meat lovers pizza minus the beef, they bought out a pizza with onion and cheese. When asked what the pizza was, we were told it was because the rest of the meats were also cured, they just presumed that we didn’t want cured meats despite us saying no beef (if this had of been the case we would have ordered one of the 2 vegetarian pizzas on the menu). They also removed the pepperoni from the other pizza we ordered as well. As they were so rude we asked for the pizza to be take away, the replacement pizzas were far from the neatly well cooked pizza they had originally presented us with, instead they were under cooked flooded by cheese slop. It was pretty evident to us that was because we sent back the original pizza.

The flavour and presentation of our meals were good. The candy yum yum drink is a must have and the zucchini flowers are amazing!!. Staff were reasonably friendly and quick to serve. Atmosphere was lovely. However was a bit disappointed our mains came out lukewarm. Didnt want to complqin as it was busy but hope in future if we return we recieve a hot meal. As both our pork ribs and duck ragu were not hot. Otherwise nice restaurant.
